This is the first that I have heard of this concept, thank you for the information, so this is a tool which if not used correctly can become a waste of time and money??

Certification means practically nothing in a Lean context. I can see the benefit of six sigma certification due to the largely theoretical nature of the material involved. Lean is more practical .... in my view anyway!

I've never bought in to the idea of teaching people to use a tool. Six Sigma is among other things a tool, primarily for statistical process control. It is not a management system like lean. It is also not a recipe for engaging people around continuous improvement. That's a big difference. Sure it has its uses. BUt many orgs sure miss the point. The point is to engage people, front-line staff and line managers to get processes under control, standardize, and above all problem solve. I like to thing of 6 sigma as the elephant gun used to kill rabbits. Sure it will get the job done, but it's not always necessary for every process. Also the us vs. them certification process with black and green belts creates the same command and control heirarchy we seek to eliminate. As if certification is an end all destination in the 1st place!

Six sigma does work but implementation has to be managed VERY carefully, else it's a waste of time, effort and money!

This is not new to me, there are people around me giving such claim, but don't really buy their idea.

In fact, nothing will work without passionate, regardless Lean, Six Sigma, Six Sense or what ever...
