Toyotas innovative coal powered car excites consultants

From April onwards due to the fact that Toyota sold more cars and trucks than General Motors (despite ongoing quality problems) all consultants gave a cheer and began to celebrate, throwing caution to the wind and splashing huge wads of money around the crap tables of Vegas. Why? Because they:
sell the no-waste business regimen known as lean manufacturing, a regimen that is popular due almost entirely to Toyota’s success.
Clearly we all know that lean is a just a crazy fad dreamed-up by these despicable consultants as:
a survey by management consulting firm Bain shows that just 19 percent of companies that have tried it are happy with the results
And these consultants just jump between industries in search for bigger and bigger pay-rises:
Those willing to jump from manufacturing companies to hospitals or banks are getting pay raises of 30 percent to 40 percent, compared with 20 percent raises moving from one manufacturing company to another.
Just think if Toyota had created a new hybrid car as well – perhaps profits would have been even higher (see photo above – the coal fired car!). But at least one article eventually concludes what I knew all along, that six sigma and innovation can work together as six sigma is exploitative while innovation is explorative:
smart companies separate the more ambitious efforts at innovation from ongoing efforts at continuous improvement. That allows for different processes, structure, and cultures to emerge within the same company.
these were:
successful 90% of the time
The rules for success were:
- Separate the efforts.
- Appoint an ambidextrous senior manager to oversee both efforts.
- Support both teams appropriately.
Hopefully, this is the start of moving away from the mindset which gives rise to comment like these:
The more you hard-wire a company on total quality management, [the more] it is going to hurt breakthrough innovation
Just remember to strike a balance between effort and documentation in six sigma projects though!

What the point of making more if the quality is less. Isn’t there craftsmanship pride anymore? Thats also one of the reason why theres no hybrid car for Toyota. They just happy to mass produced what they have right now. No need for research etc.

Toyota kicks GM because of their commitment to quality. In fact, their cars are actually more costly. But…they last longer, run smoother, and need less repairs. I was a heavy GM guy but have to admit Toyota has it together.
ON six sigma…some of it is mgmt guru hype, but the principles are solid… alot of consultants ruin what can really work.

The run your car on water technology has been out there for a while now but a lot of people just don’t know about it yet.
There are some guides that actually teach you the method but I think the big car companies won’t tell you about them, because the guides are too affordable and they would lose a lot of money if you do find them.
Gas prices are really getting high everyday and I do know some people who abandoned their car at home because they simply cannot afford to pay for gas.
I must say that your article is a very nice one but in my blog, I even got some videos and informations about the technology and the guide that can help you run your car on water. If you click my name, you will absolutely be able to learn more about this method.
Thank You

I think that Toyota will be more successful in the nearest future. Toyotas’ cars are cheaper than GMs’ cars. But the quality is similar. People don’t want to pay more for the same quality.

Heh yea gas is going to keep rising because, well we need it. What will happen when all the gas is gone? We obviously have to turn to alternative fuels. The only thing that I’m concerned about is, will the cost of the fuel eventually rise up? (I hope not! =[}

Can't we just go back to the coal fired cars? At least this would lessen our dependence upon foreign oil. No, but seriously there is a lot of research now regarding turning coal into fuel and eliminating the carbon in the process. The Toyotas of the future may just be hybrids that run on clean liquid coal based fuel.
By Crown @ Travel on July 2nd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
I dont think there's no such thing as zero emissions. You've just moved the emissions from your tail pipe to a smoke stack somewhere.
You'd be better off with a pure electric car over hydrogen because of the inefficiencies involved in converting energy in the production of hydrogen.
If you start with 100 kWh of generation at a power plant you'd get 69 kWh of energy to use in your car with an electric car. The same 100 kWh provides you with between 19 – 23 kWh of energy to use in a hydrogen fuel cell car.

Toyota is a really great giant in the automobile industry. And with it's quality standards I certainly do think it can achieve greater heights. The coal powered car idea sounds good. But How would the performance be?

The plugging into coal thing is more of a meme than actual fact as well seeing that if millions of cars, plugged in at night, wouldn’t significantly add to the amount of coal burned.I love Toyota though, one of the most comfortable automobiles!

i was just wondering the a few decades ago when gasoline wasn’t available how hard it was without cars like we have now, and thanks for Toyota they made it possible and easier for Us.

hehehe, great post this really made my day!
I read somewhere that at the turn of the century there were more than 5.000 car makers – only a few of them survived and I am under the impression that this “war” is not over yet! On the other site there were always room for small and inovative car makers – I guess its about time for the solar powered car…
By scottsdale auto repair on August 20th, 2009 at 2:21 am
Coal powered cars may actually be a possibility for the future in a way. Coal is high in hydrogen content and so researchers have been working on coal gasification, extracting the hydrogen for cars, sequestering the carbon. Future power plants may work the same way.
By green valley real estate on August 21st, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I read somewhere the rules of Toyota company and why it’s so successful, I think Toyota is still in the market while GM is nearly in a very bad position because the reason is of better planning. GM perhaps went wrong with their future estimation while Toyota also went wrong but not too much. Toyota drives Japan’s economy while GM drives motor industry of America. Japan is out of recession as I read a couple of days ago.
By update music on August 26th, 2009 at 6:59 am
Interesting indeed. The only problem with a pure electrical vehicle would be the performance issue. If the vehicle has good performance, this would be a really good idea considering the oil prices.
By Knoxville trans on August 28th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
I think the coal powered car may have qualified for the Cash for Clunkers program recently.
Actually it belongs in the Petersen's Auto Museum in Los Angeles. Coal, wood, corn and any living thing present or past can be turned into some form of fuel. More research and competition will be needed to see who the future winners are.
